Cape Town drag racer Jode Cupido and his Nissan Langley “Blessed VVL” posted a new personal best at Killarney Raceway during the Street Festival in December.
Jode’s naturally aspirated SR20 powered Langley ran 10.782 seconds @ 205.51 km/h.
Simba is crowned
This new pb makes him the fastest in the country when it comes to all-motor SR20’s.
Jode told Auto Rush that he made some minor changes to the car, since his 11.1 second run in November.
Running on full meth, the car makes just north of 200kw and is a top contender is the domestic 4AF class. 4AF includes four-cylinder front wheel drive naturally aspirated cars.
The VW 2L FSI power plant, ABF 16v and Honda’s K and B series engines, usually dominate the 4AF class.
N/A VVL’s: The most competitive class
But one group of racers, who favour the SR20 power plant, have unintentionally created one of the most competitive sub-leagues. So competitive, one could call it the English Premier League of South African drags.
Just milliseconds separate some of the country’s fastest VVL dragsters. This includes the likes of Saud Bassa, Lucky Tladi, MW Dercksen, Shaamiel Shah and Riaan Scholtz, to name a few.
Jode and Blessed VVL now sit at the top of that list at 10.7 seconds.
Many Cape Town fans believe Saud Bassa will go faster than Jode. But Pretoria-based Murbros are hell-bent on making a name for themselves a league dominated by the Cape Tonians’.
KwaZulu-Natal dragster Vivek Chetty is the only racer from the province to be in the VVL standings. His Nissan Sentra, ‘Baboon VVL’ ran a 12.2 @179 km/h at Mkuze airfield in December.
An action packed race calendar can be expected in 2025, with fans [ and myself] eager to see what changes take place in the VVL list.
