Gauteng speedsters are in for a treat as yet another race track is opening in the province.
The Mzansi Speedway will officially open on June 1, the day of its first event, according to Ismail Peck, who is heading up the project.

The track is located in Benoni opposite Formula K and will be open to street cars at first. At the present stage, the track will only accommodate cars as quick as 10-seconds, Peck explained.
The South African motoring fundi said they are phasing in the track and when it is ready, will allow faster drag specific cars entry.
“The reason I have to do it this way is to test the track. To test whether it is good for the next step. So I do not want cars faster than 10 seconds there.

“If all goes well and the 10 second cars run fine, then we can go to 9 seconds, 8 seconds, 7 seconds and even get those Americans that go 6 seconds.
But for now, only street cars. No cars on trailers will be allowed,” Peck said in a live video.
Benoni is located in the eastern part of Gauteng, which is already home to the Rock Raceway.

The Rock Raceway is not a drag-specific track, however, as it caters to spinning as well. Gauteng also has Midvaal raceway.
With drag racing, you are either all in or playing it half way. Tarlton Raceway in Krugersdorp is the SA’s only drag-specific track and currently caters to 7 second cars.
