Cape Town racer Jacques Janse van Rensberg stole the show at Race Art’s Forward Wheel Drive Shooout at Dezzi Raceway earlier this month, posting the lowest time of the day in his Opel Corsa.
The superboss turbo powered dragster posted a 9.6second quartermile @250km/h with a 1.5second 60 foot.

Van Rensberg aka “babyface” spoke to Auto Rush before the event could start, with the Kraaifontein racer explaining that he had never driven the car before the event.
“We spent a couple weeks building her for the event so I had never really driven it before. It was just from the pits here to the start line so we are looking forward to seeing what it can do.
“It’s an Opel Corsa 2L turbo with a sequential gearbox in it, it’s nothing special. It’s got a GT35 on it and it’s running on ethanol,” van Rensberg said.
The shark nose front was designed and fitted by his friend Leonard from Cape Town and is arguably the most noticeable feature on the Corsa, that is until you hear the Superboss turbo engine going full tilt.

Behind Jacques was team ERF, with Lance Pillay taking 2nd in the 4 cylinder turbo class with his orange Golf 1 “baba yaga” in a time of 9.9s @208km/h with 1.6s 60ft.
Meshen Naidoo in the Santa Muerte Yellow Golf 1 finished third in class, with a 10.3s quartermile.
KwaZulu-Natal racers dominated the naturally aspirated side of things, with Raveen Ramnath posting a 9.8s quarter mile pass in the K24 powered all-motor Honda Civic to win the 4ax class.

Obnoxious and overwhelming to the ear drums is what could be said to describe Ramnath’s Civic, which ran on VP Fuels M1 on the day.
Aadil “Adzo” Badat was 2nd in the 4ax class with a new personal best of 11.3 @193km/h in his brown Golf 1.

Kevin Moonsamy came first in the 6 cylinder normally aspirated class with his R32 swap Golf 1, which he drove from Hillary, Durban, all the way to Dezzi Raceway, won the class and drove back home in.
Moonsamy was over the moon at the awards ceremony, adding that he did not expect to win the class.

Yoshlin Kyle Chetty and his alter-ego Golf 1 Indota 6 won the 4AF class, after he posted a new personal best of 11.7s @189km/h with a 1.7 60ft.
Team K&S Automotive Garage claimed 2nd place in the diesel class in their street legal Polo TDI, as Kavish Sewlal ran the quartermile in 12.2s @202km/h.
