South Africa’s new Fastest naturally aspirated Golf 1 goes 10.3s

There’s really no saying how fast KwaZulu-Natal dragster’s are willing to go in a naturally aspirated VW Golf 1.

And for some reason, all roads seem to lead to the 2L FSI power plant.

This past weekend, Raveen Ramraj broke into the low ten-second bracket with his Bama’ blue Golf 1 dragster.

The Durbanite posted three consecutive 10’s in the naturally aspirated FSI powered Golf: 10.595 @211.2km/h; 10.549 @213.36; and finally a 10.308 @220km/h.

Raveen lodged a 1.5 60ft on all three passes in the blistering heat on Saturday, December 7.

His 10.3s quarter mile time puts him point two seconds ahead of previous record holder Inny Khan. Khan also drives a FSI powered Golf 1 under the Joker Racing flag.

But the team at Denzil’s Auto have been working up the blue magic for a few months.

The FSI unit was opened up and fitted with four high compression pistons. A set of regrind camshafts were fitted with a set of 45mm all out racing throttles.

The car has a a four into two into one branch with a straight piped exhaust system.

Candy Tuned calibrates the blue beast through the Fueltec FT550 engine management and tunes it on Nitro meth.

Four 1,200 cc Precision injectors, a Weldon pump and regulator fuels the combustion chamber.

The twinplate clutch kit, custom gearbox and custom Limited slip differential from Ken at Mtrac puts the violent power down to the tarmac.

24 and a half inch racing slicks help stick and launch the Golf with light weight wheels at the back for less drag.

With the low ten seconds in their rear view, Trivolin Pather, lead mechanic behind car says that 9 seconds is the next goal.
